Authority File

The Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic makes available the Authority File of published patent documents and the related Definition File. The files allow users, patent information providers, and other offices to assess the scope and completeness of the available Slovak patent documentation.

The Authority File contains a list of published Slovak patent documents and utility model documents. It does not contain the full texts of the documents. The records primarily contain the identification of the publishing office, publication number, kind-of-document code and publication date, as well as indicators of the text searchability of the abstract, description and claims.

UPDATES

The Authority File and Definition File are published during the first calendar week of each month. The date in YYYYMMDD format included in the names of the individual files stored in the ZIP archives indicates the creation date of the respective monthly version. One monthly set consists of three parts of the Authority File bearing the same date: A documents, B documents and U/Y documents, as well as the corresponding Definition File.

STANDARD AND FORMAT USED

The Authority File is prepared in accordance with the recommendations of World Intellectual Property Organization Standard WIPO ST.37, “Recommendation for an Authority File of Published Patent Documents”, version 3.0, approved on 14 November 2025. This version defines four mandatory data elements: publishing office, publication number, kind-of-document code and publication date. The division of the Authority File by level or kind of document complies with paragraph 29 of WIPO Standard ST.37. The Authority File published in CSV format is based on the text structure set out in Annex II to WIPO Standard ST.37. The files use Unicode UTF-8 encoding, individual fields are separated by commas, and each record ends with a CRLF line-ending character. The Authority File in XML format is created according to the XML structure set out in Annex IV to WIPO Standard ST.37, version 3.0, and validated against the ST37PatentAuthorityFile_V3_0.dtd schema.

DEFINITION FILE

The Definition File supplements the Authority File with explanatory information that is not directly apparent from the individual records. In particular, it contains the creation date, the time coverage of the data, document counts by kind-of-document code, a description of the numbering series used, notes on the scope of the data, and contact information. The Definition File is published in PDF format. Its recommended content is based on the recommendations in Annex I to WIPO Standard ST.37 and on the WIPO Authority File Guidelines.
