Publication of designations of origin and geographical indications of a third country entered in the International Register with a designation of the European Union

Every international registration by a third country under the Geneva Act designating the European Union which is notified by the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and concerns a product to which protection is granted at EU level is published by the European Commission in the “C” series of the Official Journal of the European Union. This publication gives rise to the right to file an opposition against the protection of the name in the territory of the European Union under Article 6 of Regulation (EU) 2019/1753 of the European Parliament and of the Council on the action of the Union following its accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications, on the grounds set out therein. An opposition may be filed with the European Commission within four calendar months of the date of publication of the international registration.
