Electronic renewal of international registrations

  1. On the website of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO / OMPI), at: https://webaccess.wipo.int/trademarks_ren/, an electronic environment allowing direct (online) renewal of international registrations ("e-renewal") has been available since 3 April 2006.
  2. The "e-renewal" system is a simple and efficient way of renewing international registrations as early as 6 months before the date on which the renewal payment is due (due date). The user only needs to enter the number of the international registration to be renewed and the display will show the name of the owner of the internationally registered trade mark, the name of the agent, if any, and a list of the Contracting Parties for which the international registration can be renewed. Once the Contracting Parties for which renewal of the international registration is requested are indicated, the amount of the fee to be paid is automatically displayed.
  3. Payment can be made by credit card or through a current account opened with WIPO/OMPI. Payment by credit card is only possible three months before the due date.
  4. It should be noted that the "e-renewal" system cannot be used in those cases where the list of goods and services has been restricted or the international registration has otherwise been changed, since the number of classes for the designated contracting parties cannot be determined automatically. If such a situation arises, the user will be informed of it on the display.
  5. The application for renewal of an international trade mark registration can continue to be made on paper.
