Japanese Guests in the IPO SR
The President of the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic (IPO SR) Mr Ľuboš Knoth has met the Japanese delegation composed of Mr Takuya Tanabu, Director for Intellectual Property, JETRO (Japan External Trade Organisation)1 and Mr Hideaki Shimada, Deputy Director, Quality Management Office, Japan Patent Office (JPO); as an observer at the meeting was Ms Katalin Mikló, Head of the Pharmaceutical and Agricultural Section, Hungarian Intellectual Property Office.
The visit took place after recent signing of the Agreement on the Visegrad Patent Institute (VPI). Prior to the appointment of the VPI as an International Searching and International Preliminary Examining Authority by the Assembly of the International Patent Cooperation Union and approval by the WIPO General Assembly the assistance of one or more of the existing International Authorities is required. The Japan Patent Office has been invited to assist the Slovakia and Hungary.
The main aim of the visit from Japan is therefore to assess the readiness of the IPO SR to perform functions of the above mentioned bodies within the Visegrad Patent Institute and discuss possible assistance from the Japan Patent Office.
