Pilot project to reorient patent information centres

Pilot project to reorient patent information centres

The project is aimed at re-orientation of patent information centres to innovation support centres, at establishing new innovation support services for SME´s, industry, academic sector, patent attorneys and other technical communities and at co-operation with regional and national innovation support networks.

There are 17 PATLIB centres from 11 countries participating in the pilot project: the Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Spain and Turkey.

The Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic proposed to include the Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information in Bratislava (SCSTI) in the pilot project. The European Patent Office approved this nomination and in June 2010 included the SCSTI in Bratislava in the pilot project.

The project started on 1 November 2010 and should be running till the end of 2013; it can be extended for another two years depending on the project's results.

The IPO SR is also interested in the re-orientation of its PATLIB centre and if the European Patent Office decides to include it in the project from 2014, preparatory works shall start during this year.
