Intellectual Property Experts Met in Bratislava
The International Expert Conference Shaping the Future [of IP] was held in Bratislava in November 7 – 9, 2016, under the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The main organisers were the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic together with the main partners – European Commission and European Union Intellectual Property Office, under the auspices of Andrej Kiska, the President of the Slovak Republic. The Conference was the top event in the field of intellectual property during the Presidency of the Slovak Republic of the Council of the European Union.
The objective of the Conference was to offer a comprehensive overview of current trends in the regulation, protection and enforcement of intellectual property in the European Union rights as well as to further shape of the debate on how the laws and policies can be well-balanced so that intellectual property and intellectual property rights would be used optimally to support cultural diversity and to increase the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises.
The Minister of Culture Marek Maďarič, the President of the Industrial Property Office of SR Richard Messinger welcomed personally the participants and the President of the European Union Intellectual Property Office António Campinos presented the opening speech.
In five panels the experts discussed the current intellectual property issues – Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement, Trade Mark Reform in the EU, Portability, Accessibility and Territoriality within the Framework of Digital Single Market, European Patent System and its Future and Limitations and Exceptions within the Framework of Copyright Reform.
The Conference had a very good response of the participants and main presentations shall be published in the Conference Collection being prepared by the organising team.
